Rare Confluence of Shravan Monday and Kamika Ekadashi on July 21, 2025

On July 21, 2025, a unique religious convergence will occur as the auspicious Shravan Monday and the sacred Kamika Ekadashi fall on the same day. This rare and highly auspicious alignment is considered extremely significant. Swami Amit Shukla explained that scriptures state that fasting, chanting, penance, and worship performed on such a day can destroy the sins of many lifetimes.
Swami Amit Shukla further elaborated that in the ancient traditions of Sanatan Dharma, the month of Shravan is regarded as highly auspicious and meritorious. This is the sacred period when Lord Shiva, to protect the entire creation, consumed the deadly Kalakoot poison that emerged during the ocean churning, thereby maintaining the balance of the universe. Due to the poison’s effect, his throat turned blue, earning him the name ‘Neelkanth’ (Blue-Throated One), and he is worshipped as such.
In the highly sacred month of Shravan, the Monday fast holds special significance. On Shravan Mondays, devotees should offer water, milk, bel leaves, and datura to the Shivling. Additionally, observing a fast, performing Rudrabhishek, and chanting the Mahamrityunjaya mantra on this day attract the special grace of Lord Shiva.
Swami Amit Shukla noted that a rare alignment is forming, where Shravan Monday coincides with the sacred Ekadashi fast. This date is inherently highly auspicious and beneficial.
Kamika Ekadashi, observed on the Ekadashi of the Krishna Paksha (waning phase) of Shravan, is particularly dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu. Scriptures state:
“Ekadashyam visheshena devadevasya keshavasya poojanam mokshadam proktam tena satatam poojayet tam.”
This means that worshipping Lord Sri Hari (Vishnu) on Ekadashi is said to grant liberation. Those who observe the fast on this day are freed from all sins.
According to the Puranas, individuals struggling with issues such as childlessness, poverty, illness, or domestic discord, who observe the Kamika Ekadashi fast with proper rituals and worship Lord Vishnu, will undoubtedly attain happiness, peace, and prosperity in life. This Ekadashi is also known as the wish-fulfilling Ekadashi.
Thus, July 21, 2025, presents a golden opportunity to worship both Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva. The worship performed on this date is especially fruitful for devotees, granting happiness, prosperity, peace, health, and spiritual progress.
Scriptures further state:
“Ekadashyam tu yo bhaktya vishnumeva samarchayet,
Sarvapapavinirmukto vishnulokam sa gachchati.”
This translates to: “A person who worships Lord Vishnu with devotion on Ekadashi is freed from all sins and attains Vishnu’s divine abode.”
Therefore, the merits of fasting, chanting, charity, and service performed during this rare alignment are multiplied thousands of times. This occasion is the most ideal for spiritual practices and devotion.
